언어로 창조력을 키우다 Developing creativity with language
호모 사피엔스만이 현생 인류로 유일하게 살아남아 번성하고 있는 이유는 무엇일까? 이 질문에 답하기 위해 많은 학자들이 멸종한 다른 종의 인류와 현생 인류 사이의 간극을 추적하고 있다. 현생 인류는 다방면에 걸쳐 많은 작업을 수행할 수 있는 일반적인 능력과 좀 더 특별한 전문가적인 기질을 함께 가지며, 상징적 사고와 표현, 언어와 예술, 사회적 학습, 의례, 기술과 도구 등 다방면에서 이전의 인류가 가졌던 능력을 능가한다. 이 가운데 특히 우리 인류의 완벽한 언어 체계는 우리를 지금까지 살아남게 한 일등 공신으로 꼽힌다. 언어는 소통의 수단이지만 추상적 사고와 밀접하게 관련되어 있어 볼 수 없는 세계를 사유하고 표현하게 함으로써 미래를 예측할 수 있게 한다. 결국 언어가 있어 현생 인류는 성장했고 살아남았다고 할만하다.
What is the reason for the sole survival of Homo sapiens and our continued prosperity to date? To answer these questions, scholars have been tracking down the gap between modern humans and those that are extinct. Modern humans possess the ability to perform many tasks across a variety of fields as well as a specialist disposition. We surpass our earlier human predecessors in many ways such as our ability to engage in symbolic thinking and expression, language and art, social learning, rituals, and techniques, technology and tools. Out lanuage system, in particular, is regarded as the foremost contributor to our survival so far. Language is a means of communication but also closely related to the ability to think abstractly, enabling thought and expression of the invisible world and prediction of the future. It can be said that language is the reason for the development and survival of modern humans.
